Tough Decisions Ahead for Real Madrid

Former French International star and head butting aficionado, Zinedine Zidane has joined the conversation on the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Zidane who is the Sporting Director for the team is a big fan of Bale’s and is using flattery and the press to get Bale interested in coming to Madrid. Zidane said: "I've been watching Tottenham because Gareth Bale has been playing there. Aside from Ronaldo and Messi, he is the player who has impressed me the most in the world. He is outstanding.”

As for Cristiano Ronald, Zidane believes he will stay. “Ronaldo is happy at Madrid. He is very important for the team and will not move to a different club next season.” If Madrid goes after Gareth Bale, it is said that the transfer fee would be in the neighborhood of £50 to £60 million pounds to get Tottenham to release Bale.

Earlier in the La Liga season, Ronaldo was demanding a take home pay of about £12 million a year, which means that Madrid, with their tax laws, would have to shell out around £25 million to make that happen. Throw in the £50 million for Bale plus wages of around £150 thousand a week and Madrid are faced with serious financial issues. It is also said that Ronaldo wants all rights to his likeness and name which is another hit to Madrid’s bottom line. Madrid current makes millions on merchandising sales of anything Ronaldo related. If Ronaldo takes full ownership, Madrid stands to lose millions.

Real Madrid will have to stretch themselves thin in order to get Bale and keep Ronaldo. They also have that issue of who will be the next Manager since Mourinho is set to leave. Add to that, there are rumors that several players will be looking for a new home. It is said that Pepe, Luka Modric, Kaka and Angel Di Maria to name a few, will all be on the move this summer. With all of this turmoil that Madrid is facing, it will be a wonder if they can pull off the move to get Gareth Bale or keep Ronaldo. They can do one, but will be hard pressed to do the other.
