Ruud upbeat about recovery
13 Nov 2008 - 10:56:46
Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy hopes to be back in action in little over two months after flying to the USA to seek treatment for renewed knee problems.
The 32-year-old Dutchman picked up his current injury in October and, although he played in last week's Champions League defeat to Juventus, a scan showed he had aggravated the problem.
That prompted van Nistelrooy to head to the USA to see specialist Dr Richard Steadman, who operated on the same knee eight years ago and saved the forward's career in the process.
Van Nistelrooy told Marca: "To be back here again after eight years is not good, but it is important to be with one of the best and he is the best.
"I have been lucky and I hope to only be out for a couple of months, eight weeks or thereabouts."
A statement from the Bernabeu club added: "The player has undergone a diagnostic arthroscopy, in this case therapeutic, to discover the exact cause of the injury and what course of surgery is then required.
"Once the exact diagnosis and surgical procedures have been carried out, that will determine the forecast of a recovery time."
