Real win Ronaldo battle

Real Madrid appear to have won the club-versus-country battle over Cristiano Ronaldo after Portugal ruled him out of their upcoming World Cup qualifying play-offs. Real were upset that Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz had named the £80million winger in his squad for the double-header against Bosnia-Herzegovina as Ronaldo has not played for them since September with an ankle injury which he aggravated in the last round of international games. But following discussions between the two sets of medical officials, Ronaldo will now not play in either of the two vital games. "After clinical evaluation and imaging, it was concluded that the player is not physically able to take part with the national team for these games," read a statement on the Portugal Football Association's official website.
