Ramos stands up for Ronaldo

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has spoken out in defence of Cristiano Ronaldo on behalf of the rest of the squad.

Ronaldo has been handed a two-match ban after his red card for elbowing Malaga defender Patrick Mtiliga during his side's 2-0 win on Sunday.

"Cristiano had no intention of harming the player," declared Ramos.

"We (the squad) believe the punishment is unjust. They are two matches that he must now sit out and he is an important loss for Real Madrid.

"Cristiano has received the support of the entire squad and we all think the same thing. He was only trying to get past the player."

Ronaldo has now been sent off twice in his fledgling Madrid career following his £80million summer arrival from Manchester United.
