Pepe could miss season opener

Portugal international Pepe could miss the start of Real Madrid's season because of the calf injury he sustained recently.

The 27-year-old been ruled out for three weeks after suffering the problem in the pre-season friendly against the Los Angeles Galaxy, which Madrid won 3-2.

Tests revealed a grade-two tear so Pepe is a doubt for the season opener against Real Mallorca on August 29.

Pepe missed almost the whole of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, although he was fit enough to take part in his country's World Cup campaign.
