Pellegrini upbeat over chances
08 Feb 2010 - 07:12:44
Coach Manuel Pellegrini is confident of overhauling Barcelona's lead in La Liga after seeing his Real Madrid side sweep Espanyol aside over the weekend.
Goals from Sergio Ramos, Kaka and Gonzalo Higuain put the visitors to the Santiago Bernabeu to the sword as Real kept the gap to leaders Barcelona at five points.
"We have eleven wins at home," declared Pellegrini. "In that respect we are satisfied.
"There are still 17 league games left. We will see what happens. The future cannot be predicted.
"Barcelona are on top on merit."
Meanwhile, Pellegrini has reassured Higuain that he remains a key part of the squad despite leaving the Argentina forward on the bench in recent weeks.
The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals in 11 league starts this season and was reported to be unhappy at losing his starting place.
"Higuain has never left the starting eleven," added Pellegrini. "He left because he was injured. He played the amount of time that he could."
