Coach Manuel Pellegrini was delighted to see his Real Madrid side seal a first win away to Deportivo La Coruna since 1991 with a 3-1 victory in the Riazor on Saturday evening.

Two goals from Karim Benzema and one from Esteban Granero were enough to earn Real a crucial win, as they attempt to keep in touch with league leaders Barcelona.

Pellegrini told Marca: "I'm very happy for the win because traditionally it's a very difficult ground for Real Madrid. The team have played a very good game and we are pleased.

"We tried to win from the start and even though it wasn't a final, we knew it was an important game against a tough rival.

"The league will be open until it is mathematically impossible. This team will fight until the end."
