Real Madrid have won the race to sign Werder Bremen's Germany international Mesut Ozil for a fee in the region of 15million euros. The 21-year-old, who won many plaudits for his performances at this summer's World Cup in South Africa, had been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona. Ozil, who had one year left on his contract with Werder, will have a medical in Madrid on Wednesday. A statement on Real's official website read: "His unique touch, unmatched individual technique, excellent ball control and deadly last pass make the German midfielder one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in European football." Ozil joined Werder Bremen from Schalke two years ago, helping the club reach the UEFA Cup final in his first season. Last year he helped Germany win the European Under-21 title before becoming an integral part of Joachim Low's senior squad in South Africa. Real boss Jose Mourinho signed Ozil's international team-mate, Sami Khedira, earlier in the summer and has also added Chelsea star Ricardo Carvalho, Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales and Angel di Maria to his squad since the end of last season.
