Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has admitted defeat in his attempt to bring David Luiz to the Bernabeu.

The Benfica central defender, who has also been linked with Manchester City, is over-valued by the Portuguese side, according to Mourinho.

The former Inter Milan, Chelsea and FC Porto manager told TV1 Spain, "I like him a lot, but he will not come to Madrid this year.

"There was a little contact, but the price is prohibitive. After all that was spent on last year's Madrid, now we do not have much to spend."
