Is Mourinho leaving Real Madrid?

The rumour mill has been working over-time in Spain this week, the big story without a doubt being José Mourinho’s possible exit from Real Madrid at the end of the current season.

Stories have popped up in various Spanish newspapers, such as Marca, As and Sport, about the cold relationship Mourinho has with his players, especially Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, players who according to the Spanish press have had more than one heated argument.

On Monday morning, Marca.com ran a story with the headline “Mourinho’s cycle in Madrid has come to an end”. According to Marca, the negotiations don't point to and exit in June, but the decision regarding his departure is final.

During the last couple of days, the press in Spain have already been looking at possible candidates to take over at Real Madrid. An internet poll by Marca showed that Joachim Low was the preferred choice to step into Mourinho's shoes. Other options – in the poll include Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez and even Arsene Wenger.

But with the World Cup two years away, and Germany being a strong candidate to win, Joachim Low would probably not want to take charge of Real Madrid at the moment.

There was talk among fans that Mourinho's next move would be to Ligue 1, to be the manager is Paris Saint-Germain. However PSG's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was quick to deny the claims, As.com quoted him as saying “Mourinho to PSG? That’s false, we have Ancelotti”.

José Mourinho has always been honest about his wanting to return to the Premier League, some people believe Manchester City will be his next move others say Manchester United – Once Sir Alex Ferguson retires – some football fans even believe that he could return to Stamford Bridge, if Abramovich doesn't get his first option Pep Guardiola.

Personally, I don’t think Mourinho would want to be anyone’s back up guy, especially when the first option is his arch enemy Pep Guardiola.

In his three years at Real Madrid he has always been surrounded by controversy. Some people accuse him of taking the Real Madrid – Barcelona rivalry to the next level. Love him or hate him, he never leaves anyone indifferent.

Where do you think Mourinho's next move will be?
