Is James Rodriguez set to be Real Madrid's next galactico?

Real Madrid have gained a reputation over the last few seasons for making one man their marquee signing of the summer. First it was a world record bid for Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo followed by another record-breaking transfer for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale. This summer it seemed Luis Suarez would be the next superstar to wear the famous white shirt only for Barcelona to wrap up a transfer following his controversial biting incident. With the World Cup now over, one name was on the lips of everyone in Brazil.

Colombia’s James Rodriguez was arguably the best player of the tournament despite Lionel Messi picking up the Golden Ball award. The Monaco attacker scooped the tournament’s Golden Boot with six goals in just five games. The Colombian finished a goal better off than Germany’s Thomas Muller after being backed at 100-1 at the start of the tournament to finish as top goal-scorer.

Rodriguez joined Monaco just last season leaving Porto for £38.5 million. However, the 23 year old has revealed he would fulfil a lifelong dream by moving to Madrid and playing alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

It seems Real Madrid are ready to make the young superstar their next marquee signing with Argentine winger Angel di Maria set to leave the Spanish capital even after a fantastic season for Los Blancos. The former Benfica winger has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Paris St Germain potentially signalling a move for Rodriguez could be in the works.

Monaco will not let their starlet leave for cheap however. According to Marca, the French club have valued their attacker at a huge €75 million (£59.5 million) if they are to secure the services of the World Cup sensation.

Real Madrid are also seeking a deal for Bayern Munich maestro Toni Kroos who enjoyed a good World Cup himself. Kroos has confirmed in the aftermath of Sunday’s final that he is set to join the European champions Kroos told UOL “We’ve finished the World Cup in the best way possible. Now I’m going to Madrid, so that’s two dreams achieved.”

With Barcelona signing a player of Suarez’s calibre and partnering him in a devastating South American trio of Messi and Neymar, Real Madrid would make a statement of intent by completing deals for both Kroos and Rodriguez; the latter who has been tipped for greatness who could one day better Madrid’s Portuguese superstar.
