Gago backed to stay at Real

One of the agents representing Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago believes that his client will not be allowed to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this month.

The 23-year-old Argentinian is a target for Manchester City, but Zoran Vekic thinks that a move is highly unlikely to be sanctioned.

He told Soccernet: "(Fellow agent) Marcelo Lombilla is in Madrid and has met twice with Jorge Valdano, but I do not believe that Gago will leave.

"There is still a meeting pending, but I doubt that Madrid will let him join Manchester City, because it is not a question of money.

"It is a sporting decision and the coaches want him to stay in the squad."
