Arsenal and PSG battle for Madrid star

Arsenal and PSG are set to battle for Madrid star Karim Benzema as early as this January – with reports increasing speculation that Real Madrid are in the hunt for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao.

According to transfermarketweb.com – Arsenal and PSG are ready to bid for the former Olympique Lyon player as early as January.

Arsenal appear to be the main contenders for the Frenchman's signature – who has scored 70 goals in 145 appearances for Real Madrid since his £33million move in 2009. A goal to game ratio like that will appeal Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who currently has one striker he can rely on.

Olivier Giroud has failed to deliver since his summer move from Montpellier – with just one goal in the league this season. Wenger see's his fellow countryman Benzema as the ideal solution to his side's lackluster goal scoring record this season.

Benzema signed a six year deal in 2009 – which is set to run out in 2015.

It is likely Benzema will need to take a wage-cut to play at Arsenal. Although increased playing time as well as moving to London may tempt him to switch to Wenger's side.

PSG who have also been linked – and rumoured to have had a bid rejected before for Benzema, will be able to increase his current wage as well as offering Madrid a massive transfer fee. However they were previously unsuccessful in their bid.

With the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and potentially Radamel Falcao all fighting for the one position up top in Mourinho's favourited 4-2-3-1 formation – Benzema may be tempted by the idea of regular playing time. Although – any club would surely be a significant step down for the Frenchman.
