Alonso tips Real to beat Barca

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso believes his side can overcome Barcelona in their 'El Clasico' meeting at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening.

The eagerly-anticipated showdown will pit La Liga's big-two together and a win for either side would put them in charge at the top of the table.

Alonso, who joined Los Blancos from Premier League side Liverpool last summer, has placed his faith in sharp-shooting frontmen Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain to fire them to glory.

He said: "Barcelona are the best team of the last 20 years, both in terms of performance and in terms of style of play.

"A great Barca side are arriving, but we are also on a very strong winning streak.

"I believe we have the weapons to deal with them and if I were a defender, I would be worried with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain."
