Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol has been honoured in his home town of Villamarchante, near Valencia, following Spain's World Cup final victory on Sunday.
He is expected to receive the town's gold medal from mayor Vicente Betoret for his achievements in South Africa.
Speaking to his club's official website, Albiol said: "I am very happy for my experience in South Africa. I wish we could carry on at the same level.
"The important thing was to win the World Cup and that's done now, this team has still many goals to achieve. What I experienced in Madrid was incredible, but I got goose bumps when I saw what was waiting for me back home.
"We should be extremely happy because it's the first time Spain has won the World Cup. We were very confident during the tournament and, besides the fact that we had a bit of luck, we worked very hard to win the title."
