Real Sociedad's French coach Philippe Montanier will leave at the end of this season after rejecting their offer of a new contract, the Basque club confirmed on their official website on Tuesday.

Montanier, 48, is in his second season at the helm at Anoeta, and has led the team to fourth place in La Liga with two games to spare.

La Real, the club from the Basque city of San Sebastian who were two-time champions in 1981 and 1982, are currently level on points with fifth-placed Valencia, but will qualify for the Champions League play-offs if they can hold on to fourth.

The club did not comment on the potential destination of Montanier, although reports in Spain and France in recent days have indicated that Ligue 1 side Rennes is a likely destination.

Rennes have reportedly offered Montanier a three-year contract to replace Frederic Antonetti, who will leave at the end of the campaign.
