Clubs across Europe are rubbing their hands together in glee as Sami Khedira has announced he’ll be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Khedira shared one last photo from the Spanish club’s training ground in Valdebebas as he revealed he’d be available on a free transfer when the window opens in just over a month.
This season hasn’t been one of the best for the 28-year-old as he’s been plagued with injuries and barely even stepped onto the pitch, but he’s adamant that his fitness is not the reason of his departure.
“I did have a small injury, a pain in my right heel, but that wasn’t why I wasn’t playing. It wasn’t a complicated injury, I was still able to play,†Khedira told Spanish newspaper Marca, accusing the club of freezing him out.
“I’ve always felt that I’ve had the coach’s backing but the message indirectly came through to me that I was no longer needed, I was frozen out and wouldn’t have a chance to continue playing.
“Nobody from the club said anything to me directly. It’s all feelings, incidents and comments saying I wouldn’t play any more. But nobody approached me.”
“What’s happened this past season hurt my soul. It’s not the ending I wanted. It hurts that I’m accused of a lack of professionalism because I’ve always put the team ahead of myself.â€
Despite having the utmost respect for his team mates at Real, the midfielder admitted it was time to spread his wings and take a different turn in his career.
Well, you know what they say, one man’s loss is another man’s gain.
