Real Madrid looking to cash in on 31-year-old star?

If the reports in Spanish outlet 'Sport' prove accurate then Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be reaching the end of his stay at Real. The former Manchester United player was sold to Real Madrid in 2009 for a then world record fee has been the star man at the Bernabeu for the past seven seasons.

The player who has given the best years of his life to the Madrid club now appears to be in the process of being repackaged and hawked around clubs like Manchester United and PSG in an attempt to get some return as he enters the twilight of his career.

Reports suggest that Real will offer the Portuguese forward back to United in the Summer whilst the player still has form and value, having scored 42 goals in 40 appearances in another prolific campaign.

The report claims they are looking for an incredible £48.2million for a player with a few seasons left in the tank rather than wait for the player to retire at Real Madrid. PSG are understood to be more interested in signing Neymar in the summer which really just leaves Man United or possibly City in the frame with the kind of buying power necessary.

Ronaldo could decide to stay at Real Madrid until his contract expires in 2018 when the player is 33 and perhaps is ready to hang up his boots but this could potentially be an issue for Real themselves who would of course prefer a cash injection to help fund his replacement sooner rather than later, especially after what has been an underwhelming season by Real's recent standards.

It hardly needs stating what Cristiano Ronaldo could offer a club commercially with merchandising and marketing but the cost will still likely put off most clubs for a short-term prospect.
