Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano has been released from hospital after being kept under supervision due to a heart complaint.

Di Stefano, the club's honorary president, underwent a quadruple bypass in 2005 and was admitted to the La Fe hospital in Valencia after a routine check-up showed signs of an irregular heartbeat.

"He is in phenomenal condition and is speaking about football," said Jose Anastasio Montero, the surgeon who also carried out the operation on the 86-year-old eight years ago.

"He was a little late in undergoing his check-up and he arrived with his blood-pressure a little low. Moreover, there was an irregular heartbeat that was contributing to his level of fatigue.

"A normal treatment of his cardiac rhythm has gone very well."

Di Stefano is one of Real Madrid's most celebrated players as he represented Los Blancos for 11 seasons between 1953 and 1964, winning five European Cups in the process.
