Real Madrid made it two wins from two in this season's Champions League with a clinical 3-0 dismissal of Ajax at the Bernabeu to consolidate top spot in Group D.
After opening with a laboured 1-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one, Jose Mourinho's men looked more in the mood and eased to the three points thanks to goals by Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema.
Goals by Bafetimbi Gomis and Bakary Kone guided Lyon to victory as they consolidated second place with a dominant 2-0 victory against Dinamo Zagreb.
Gomis put the French side ahead midway through the first half with a classy chip before Kone effectively sealed three points with a tap-in two minutes before the break. It meant Lyon marked their 100th Champions League game with victory as they dominated their Croatian opponents to move three points clear in second behind Real Madrid.
Claudio Ranieri continued his winning start to life as Inter Milan manager with a 3-2 victory over CSKA Moscow at the Luzhniki Stadium.
Lucio gave Inter a sixth-minute lead and Giampaolo Pazzini doubled the lead midway through the first half, before Alan Dzagoev and Vagner Love levelled the scores. However, substitute Mauro Zarate blasted in the winner 11 minutes from time to get Inter's Group B campaign up and running after the shock home defeat at the hands of Trabzonspor on matchday one.
Gustavo Colman's 75th-minute penalty maintained Trabzonspor's lead at the top of Group B as they recorded a 1-1 draw against Lille. Moussa Sow had given the Ligue 1 champions a 31st-minute lead with his second goal in as many games - but Colman's 75th-minute spot-kick ensured parity.
Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani struck in three first-half minutes as Napoli downed Villarreal 2-0 in the Stadio San Paolo in Naples to move into second place. Hamsik lashed home a cross from Ezequiel Lavezzi in the 14th minute then three minutes later Cavani converted a penalty after Lavezzi was tripped by Gonzalo Rodriguez in the box.
It was a fine result for Napoli on the back of their opening draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, while the Spanish side remain bottom of the group with no points.
A first half goal from Bruno Cesar was enough to give Benfica a 1-0 victory over Otelul Galati which earns them the joint lead of the group after two matches.
