Real boss happy with Ronaldo form

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is relieved Cristiano Ronaldo returned to top form in Wednesday's 2-0 Champions League win at Schalke.

The Portuguese forward had not scored in a month, a span of time in which he had to serve a two-match suspension for kicking out at Cordoba defender Edimar.

Ronaldo not only scored but also set up Marcelo for Real's second to put the defending European champions in a commanding position after the last-16 first-leg tie.

"Cristiano has scored, has played well and has provided an assist," Ancelotti told his club's official website. "Cristiano is back.

"In this team we have no problems if Cristiano does not score for one or two games.

"Everyone knows that if he doesn't score in two games he will do after.

"We really needed a game like this one.

"The team had the right attitude, we played good football and everything has gone well."

Real had been under pressure after seeing their lead in the Primera Division cut to just one point after their surprising 4-0 derby defeat at Atletico earlier this month.

However, Ancelotti's side were on-song in Germany to secure their seventh win in European competition this season.

"My team handed a serious performance and were efficient against a side that defended from the start," the Italian tactician said. "After going in front, we controlled the game."

Ancelotti was impressed by the performance of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva.

Silva, who joined the Spanish giants during the winter transfer market from Cruzeiro, earned his first start for Real on Wednesday.

Ancelotti said. " He showed a lot of focus and good ideas on the pitch.

"He showed a lot of character, something that really surprised me.

"It's not easy to play for the first time with Real Madrid when you are just 22."
