Sergio Ramos has adopted an ambiguous tone with regards to the possibility of Real Madrid signing Gareth Bale.
The club are reported to be ready to break the world record transfer fee by shelling out up to 100million euros (£87 million) for the Tottenham forward.
Madrid captain Iker Casillas has hailed Bale as "one of the best three or four players in the world" but Ramos kept his cards close to his chest when asked by reporters whether Carlo Ancelotti's side, who have already spent an estimated 70million euros (£61 million) signing Isco, Asier Illarramendi, Dani Carvajal and Casemiro, needed to add Bale to their squad, considering the enormous price Spurs are demanding for him.
"I think that the price of the player is dictated by the market," he said.
"It's not my job to decide whether we should sign Bale or someone else. It's important for Madrid to have a large number of young players and Spanish players in the team. The mix of youth and experience makes for a good project. The president and the other directors will decide whether or not we sign Bale, not me."
Ramos did, however, express excitement about the upcoming season under Ancelotti.
"It's always a good thing to have great coaches with a lot of experience and he is one of the best coaches in the world and is guaranteed to do well, and we are delighted to have him. I hope we'll be able to win trophies with him."
The defender did not enjoy the smoothest of relationships with Ancelotti's predecessor, Jose Mourinho.
Last season he was left out of the side by the Portuguese coach for a Champions League group game against Manchester City, and was singled out for criticism by his boss for an error which lead to Manchester United's goal in the 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu last February.
However, he was keen to draw a line under Mourinho's time at the club, and even had some kind words for the Chelsea manager, who he explained passed on to him the hunger to keep growing as a player.
