People are actually petitioning to make Transfer Deadline Day a national holiday

If there’s anything which distracts us from the doom and gloom of January, after we’ve come to terms with the effects the overspending (and eating) of the month before, it’s Transfer Deadline Day.

Transfer Deadline Day is one of the most important in the footballing season and everyone wants to enjoy it with a cuppa (or perhaps a pint) from the comfort of their own home.

That’s why almost 12,000 football fans have backed a petition launched by Sky Bet to make the upcoming Transfer Deadline Day a national holiday – seriously.

Apparently the UK receives the second lowest public holiday entitlement in the world (and the absolute lowest in Europe) so even if you’re not that into football and just want an extra day off, this petition is probably the way to go.

In the unlikely event you’re not sold on the idea yet, this guy has made a pretty spectacular argument…

We’ll gloss over the fact that this year it’s actually in February.
