Paper Talk: Gareth Bale-Real Madrid rumours just won't go away

You can always rely on a top player’s agent to make the most of any opportunity to raise the transfer market value of his client. Gareth Bale’s representative Jonathan Barnett is no exception.

Whilst speculation surrounding the Player of the Year’s future continues to rumble on, Barnett has added even more fuel to the fire by saying that if Real Madrid come calling ‘we would listen’.

On top of that, and using one of the biggest transfers of the summer so far, Barnett reckons that if Barcelona-bound Neymar is worth the £51.3m transfer fee the Spaniards are said to be shelling out...‘Gareth Bale is worth more’.

Smart move by a representative who will insist that getting the best for his client is paramount; not lining his own pockets. Yeah, right!

According to the Star, Real Madrid have set a June 15 deadline to sign Bale, although they seem to be overlooking the small fact that Tottenham still hold all the cards and that it is they, not Real or Bale, who will have the final say.

In a further attempt to lure the coveted Welsh international to the Bernabeu, Real have vowed to do everything in their powers to keep Cristiano Ronaldo and pair the two flyers as their lethal wing commanders.

Real say they are prepared to make Ronaldo the highest paid player in the world – eclipsing Lionel Messi – in order to prevent him returning to former club Manchester United. No doubt Bale would command a similar deal. Especially if his agent has his way!

Staying with Spurs, Bale’s current employers are reported to be planning to boost their hit-and-miss strike force with the addition of a new £30m pairing in the shape of David Villa and Leandro Damiao whose arrival at the Lane would be a wake-up call for the likes of Defoe, Adebayor and Dempsey.
