Ozil fined for driving offence

Midfielder Mesut Ozil has become the latest Real Madrid player to be fined for a driving offence, Madrid sports daily Marca reported on Sunday.

The German international was fined 500 euros ($650, £435) and had six points taken off his licence for performing an illegal turn, said the newspaper, citing Radio Nacional de Espana as their source.

Ozil's teammates Karim Benzema and Marcelo have also been trouble with the authorities recently for driving offences.

Benzema has a hearing on March 26 after being caught driving at 216 kilometres per hour on February 3.

Marcelo meanwhile was fined 6,000 euros ($7,800, £5,225) at the rate of 25 euros ($32, £22) a day for the next eight months on Thursday for driving after his licence had been revoked.
