According to Modric's former team-mate Bilic, who claims Chelsea and Manchester United face stern competition for the midfielder. "I'm very good friends with Modric, he wants to play in the Spanish league. He's very close to agreeing a deal".

United and Chelsea are keen on Modric, who wants to leave London for Champions league football. According to Suker, if Modric doesn't sign for Madrid he'll thinks the midfielder will end up at Manchester City or Chelsea as he feels he needs to leave in order to win trophies. "I am proud he thinks I could be a Real Madrid player". Modric explained after hearing what Suker had said about him.
