Higuain: Ronaldo is overrated

After missing a host of chances to score at the Bernabeu as Real Madrid were held by 10-man Malaga on Saturday. The Portuguese has failed to score for the third successive match as Real Madrid lost top spot in La Liga.

Malaga, currently in the relegation zone, held out for a draw with Rafa Benitez’s squad of superstars. Real had 31 shots and 69% of possession in front of a crowd of 75,361. The result allowed neighbours Atletico to go top of the table and Barcelona second.

The three time Ballon d’Or winner needs only three goals to pass Raul's mark of 323 to become the club's record goalscorer. However, he was left frustrated in front of goal just a week after he scored eight goals in two matches.

There are also claims from former team mate questioning Ronaldo’s ability. Gonzalo Higuain slams Cristiano Ronaldo and brands Real Madrid star "egotistical and overrated" and was not impressed by Ronaldo's antics on the training ground.

Higuain left Real Madrid for Napoli back in 2013 and says that playing alongside Ronaldo is nothing like playing with his Argentina team-mate Lionel Messi. Quoted by Spanish newspaper Sport , he said: "He has a lot of ego. If you don't say he's the best, he's not your friend. Cristiano thinks he's the best but he's over-rated.”

Ronaldo’s attitude has been brought into question in the past, in last season's game against Levante video showed Cristiano Ronaldo looking annoyed and reacting when teammate Gareth Bale scored from a rebound after Ronaldo’s shot had been saved.

Higuain and Ronaldo played up front together for the Los Blancos' for several years, however, the argentine has far more respect respect for his international team-mate Messi saying "I've shared a dressing room with Messi and one is nothing like the other.”

Messi, now out for eight weeks tearing a ligament in his left knee, is surely the favourite to win this years Ballon d’Or after guiding Barcelona to complete the treble for the second time in six years with 58 goals. It looks like Ronaldo is going to get more annoyed.
