It only took six minutes for Ronaldo to be presented with a golden opportunity to smash home a free kick in front of a hyped up Bournemouth crowd on Monday night.
The former Manchester United winger lined up his free-kick with his trademark stance and lashed a thunderous effort just wide of Darryl Flahavan’s post.
The wayward free kick cannoned in to the stands and struck 11-year-old Charlie Silverwood on the arm.
Despite the pain, the brave schoolboy and his dad watched the rest of the match which the Spanish giants won 6-0, thanks to a couple of goals from Ronaldo followed by Sami Khedira, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria and new signing Casemiro.
Speaking to The Sun, Charlie said: ‘‘I could see the ball coming towards me. It curled past the post and was going to hit my face – so I had to block it with my hand.
My dad was sat next to me and ducked out of the way so I took the full force. It was very painful. I’ve told friends and they cannot believe it. Ronaldo is the world’s most expensive player – and he broke my arm.’’
After the match Cherries fan Charlie was taken to hospital where he underwent an operation which fixed the breaks and left his arm in plaster.
He was later presented with a Real Madrid shirt signed by Ronaldo and the other Bernabeu stars which was given to him by Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher.
