Real Madrid goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas was dropped from the starting line-up for the first time in 10 years on Saturday as coach Jose Mourinho lost patience with the Spanish World Cup winner.

Mourinho called in 25-year-old Antonio Adan to take the place of the benched Casillas for the trip to Malaga.

Adan played for Real in the Champions League 4-1 win over Ajax Amsterdam on December 4.

Casillas had not been dropped from the starting line-up since 2002 when he was overlooked for a game at Deportivo La Coruna.
