Rafael Benitez is confident captain Sergio Ramos and striker Karim Benzema will remain at Real Madrid, amid reports linking the pair with English clubs.

Ramos is reportedly at the centre of a tug of war between the Spanish giants and Manchester United, with rumours suggesting the defender wants a switch to the Barclays Premier League.

Madrid have been at pains to knock back suggestions one of the star players will be leaving the Bernabeu and Benitez has reiterated the club's stance.

Speaking after the 4-1 International Champions Cup win over Manchester City in Melbourne, Benitez told reporters: "Sergio has known from day one that I want him to stay and I'm sure that he'll stay with us."

The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Inter Milan boss was also optimistic of Benzema remaining in the Spanish capital, despite reported interest from Arsenal.

Benitez added: "People are asking me about different players that maybe we will buy and I always say the same thing, 'he's not our player, I will not talk about that'.

"In this case Karim is our player so I will not talk about that. I hope, I'm sure, that he will stay with us."

Benzema opened the scoring at the MCG before goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe gave Madrid a 3-0 lead over City, who pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.

Real winger Denis Cheryshev added Real's fourth with 15 minutes to go to complete a comfortable win and one that satisfied Benitez.

"Although we're in pre-season, it's always positive to see the team perform like this," he said. "We put in a very good game both in attack and in defence."

"In the end it's the fine details that make the difference, and today we saw a team with high-quality players who played with good organisation.

"We're a team that are going to score goals. We have to attack and make that slight improvement in defence that we need."
