Top four link flatters Shorey

Reading defender Nicky Shorey remains hopeful of signing a new contract, but has admitted a move to one of the 'top four' is an appealing prospect. The England left-back remains locked in negations over a new contract with the Royals and is keen to put pen to paper at the Madejski Stadium. However, the 26-year-old defender has admitted he is flattered by speculation linking him with the big four. Shorey has made over 250 appearances during seven years with the Royals but has just 18 months left on his existing deal. "I'm still having talks with Reading and just seeing how that goes," he told Sky Sports News. "Obviously when January gets nearer there's going to be a lot more speculation. I don't think just about me, but about a lot of players, even at Reading. We will wait and see what happens. "You want to test yourself at the best, everyone does. If a top-four team comes in and says 'we want you' you'd be lying if you said you didn't want to go. "But while I'm at Reading I will always give my best. I've enjoyed it here for a long time and I will enjoy it in the future. "I'm trying to get a contract sorted here and we'll see where that takes us."
