Tabb keen to sign new Reading deal
Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has revealed that contract negotiations have opened about extending his deal with the club.
The 26-year-old, who replaced the banned Mikele Leigertwood to make only his 12th appearance of the season against QPR on Saturday following a foot injury, is out of contract in the summer, meaning he could leave the Madejski Stadium on a free transfer.
However, Tabb is thinking about nothing else than putting pen-to-paper with the Royals and regaining a regular first-team place. He told the Crowthorne and Sandhurst Times: "The gaffer has spoken to me and [director of football] Nicky Hammond has spoken to my agent, so I think they do want to do something.
"I've got a few games coming up now so hopefully I can do well and get that new contract here. I love it at Reading and I don't want to be anywhere else so, as long as the contract is there, I'll be signing it."
On his run-out at the weekend, he added: "I had big shoes to fill with `Ledge' being ineligible. I think he's been one of our players of the season since he came in, so it was always going to be tough. Even though I'm feeling fresh, I probably need a bit more match sharpness."
