Reading centre-half Sam Sodje faces at least a couple of weeks on the sidelines as he requires an operation to get to the bottom of a knee problem.
The 27-year-old has featured just once for the Royals since joining from Brentford in the summer and will undergo keyhole surgery to try and cure his niggling injury.
Royals physio Jon Fearn told the club's official website: "He's had persistent swelling on the knee.
"We'll have a look to see how we can manage it best. With an arthroscopy he'll be out for a minimum of two to three weeks, but it's all quite open really."
Sodje cost Reading £350,000, having enjoyed two successful seasons at Griffin Park after making the jump from non-league Margate.
