Sidwell may stay put

Star midfielder Steve Sidwell has given Reading renewed hope of keeping hold of one of their major assets after admitting he could sign a new contract at the Madejski Stadium.

The former Arsenal trainee looked set to be on his way from the Berkshire club in the summer after failing to agree terms on a new deal, but has revealed that a further round of contract talks are planned for the New Year.

The 23-year-old had been linked with a move to Manchester City on a free transfer at the end of the season.

"We will touch base in January and hopefully we can sit down again," said Sidwell.

"I want to stay in the Premier League for the rest of my career either with Reading or another club, but I think I can do it with Reading.

"At the moment sitting tight and not signing anything is the best thing for me to do."
