Sidwell hints at Royals stay
09 Mar 2007 - 15:41:38
Reading contract rebel Steve Sidwell has hinted he could remain at the Madejski Stadium should the Royals secure European football for next season.
The 24-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a free transfer switch to host of other Premiership clubs in the summer.
But Sidwell, who came through the ranks at Arsenal, has intimated that he could be persuaded to stay at the Berkshire club if they were to finish in the top seven and earn a UEFA Cup spot.
Steve Coppell's side are currently seventh in the Premiership table just one point ahead of Spurs.
"It's that time of year again after the window when there is a lot of speculation," he told the Reading Evening Post.
"Because of my contract situation, I understand there will be speculation but, as long as I am wearing the Reading shirt, I will continue to give my all.
"I am sitting tight until the summer.
"If we did qualify for Europe, then that would really make me sit up and take notice. I would be stupid if I didn't but I need to look at the whole picture."
