Shorey hints at move
06 Sep 2007 - 16:39:33
Reading left-back Nicky Shorey has hinted that he could leave the club in the January transfer window.
West Ham United were keen to sign the 26-year-old last week, but the Royals rejected a £4million bid for his services, insisting he was worth twice that amount.
Although he still has two years left on his contract, Shorey has not ruled out the possibility of a mid-winter move.
He told the Reading Evening Post: "It would be daft for any player to say he would be here or there this time next year.
"All I know is I will continue to work as hard as I can and give my all to Reading.
"I am as fully committed to the club now as I have been over the last six years I have been here."
Reading's director of football Nicky Hammond added: "We offered him an exceptionally good contract that takes into account that this is an England international.
"It is just an issue of him wanting to take time and look at his options. You have to respect that.
"I would certainly hope to keep him here beyond January, but you can never say never in this game.
"Whether he wants to leave, you would have to ask him that, but he's a good boy, he has been here a long time. Sometimes opportunities arise and players may want to move on."
