Royals reward for McDermott
27 Jan 2010 - 18:01:14
Reading have appointed Brian McDermott on a permanent basis after handing the caretaker manager a 12-month rolling contract.
McDermott took charge of first-team affairs at the Madejski Stadium following the departure of Brendan Rodgers in December.
The Royals have failed to win any of the five Championship games under his leadership but have knocked both Liverpool and fellow Premier League side Burnley out of the FA Cup.
"We are approaching a vital run of games and I will be doing everything I can to ensure we get back up the table as soon as possible," he told the club's official website.
"The supporters can really make a difference and I am confident we can reward them between now and the end of the season."
Chairman Sir John Madejski added: "I have always had great faith in Brian, I've always known his qualities and his period in charge simply reaffirmed what I already knew.
"It was important to give him an opportunity and he has taken it with both hands.
"He clearly has the full backing of the squad and the majority of the performances have been good, while he has been unfortunate to have been handed four of his five league games away from home.
"We have reaffirmed our commitment to him with this contract and we are determined to pull together as a club with Brian at the helm."
