Royals retain Griffin belief

Reading boss Brian McDermott remains hopeful of completing the permanent signing of Stoke City right-back Andy Griffin in the near future.

The 31-year-old impressed while on loan with the Royals last season and is expected to leave the Britannia Stadium this summer.

McDermott told the Reading Chronicle: "I'm happy with my squad, but obviously I still need a right-back and everyone knows the one I want.

"It is something we're trying very hard to do. There has been dialogue between us and Stoke and the situation has to come to a conclusion at some point soon.

"We've still got a bit of work to do, but we're hoping it will be sooner rather than later."
