    Royals expect keeper return

    21 May 2007 - 13:04:45

Reading expect to have Marcus Hahnemann fit for pre-season training, despite the goalkeeper undergoing surgery to repair broken bones in his hand.

The American keeper was injured in the Royals' final game of the Premiership season against Blackburn Rovers.

Hahnemann was left nursing a badly broken hand following a first-half collision with Blackburn striker Shabani Nonda.

"Marcus had an operation with two plates and 16 screws inserted into his hand," physio Jon Fearn told the club's official website.

"It's quite a nasty fracture. One of the bones is in five pieces, but we're still aiming for a return in pre-season."

Meanwhile, Aaron Brown has suffered a fresh setback in his return from a broken ankle.

The defender hasn't played since picking up the injury in a pre-season game last summer.

"Aaron had a procedure on his ankle last week and unfortunately we found further damage," revealed Fearn.

"He'll be on crutches for six weeks and it will extend his recovery period by two or three months. Unfortunately he's looking at August to September."
