Brendan Rodgers has been appointed manager of Reading after Watford accepted a £750,000 compensation package. Rodgers, who only spent six months at Vicarage Road after leaving Chelsea, replaces Steve Coppell, who quit after failing to win promotion. Discussions had earlier stalled - but Watford chairman Jimmy Russo agreed to allow Rodgers to leave after Reading chairman John Madejski upped his compensation payment from £500,000 to £750,000.
