Guthrie banned for Royals
Reading will be without Danny Guthrie through suspension when they host struggling Barnsley.
Midfielder Guthrie starts a two-match ban after he was shown a 10th yellow card of the season during Saturday's 2-1 win at Birmingham.
Boss Nigel Adkins is short of options in the centre with Danny Williams (knee), Mikele Leigertwood (ankle) and Jem Karacan (cruciate) still missing so winger Jobi McAnuff could move infield.
Sean Morrison (knee) will step up his comeback by playing for the reserves on Monday while fellow defender Wayne Bridge (knee) is not quite ready to return.
Barnsley defender Peter Ramage will play no part amid fears he could be ruled out for the rest of the season.
Ramage, on loan from Crystal Palace, will be sidelined for at least three weeks with a hamstring injury sustained in the closing stages of Saturday's home defeat to Bournemouth.
Jean Yves Mvoto is expected to start in Ramage's absence, while fellow defender Martin Cranie remains sidelined with the hamstring injury that has kept him out of the last two matches.
Boss Danny Wilson will also monitor a couple more unnamed players who sustained knocks at the weekend as his side bid to climb off the bottom of the table with their first win in four games
