Of course there was a pitch invasion at Reading v Bradford

Beating Bradford might not seem like the biggest event in a team’s season, but for Reading fans it was worth a pitch invasion.

To be fair to them, it wasn’t any old win over the Bantams – the 3-0 victory took them through to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

Of course, this is not the first pitch invasion of the FA Cup quarter-finals – a similar event following Aston Villa’s win over West Brom led to host of overblown stop-the-madness back-to-the-bad-old-days chat.

That was all pretty good-natured stuff though, in truth – and it was a similar story at the Madejski Stadium tonight.

Fans of rival clubs were not impressed.

It’s a consequence of holding the last-four matches at Wembley that winning a quarter-final seems like a bigger thing than it really is. Should a quarter-final victory really be worth one?

Either way, it’s official – pitch invasions are back in fashion. But these are the cuddly, friendly descendants of the ones from the past – so don’t worry.
