Murty tips Royals to make progress

Murty, who confirmed he has yet to sign for a club after his release last season, scored a hat-trick of penalties at the Madejski Stadium as players of past and present graced the field. And the 34-year-old veteran saw enough quality play from the Royals to believe that they are on the way back to the top flight. He said: "So many people came out, so many legends gave up their time and it meant a great deal, I can't pay them all enough tribute. "I was impressed with how the new Reading team moved the ball, there is a mentality to pass it all the way through from the back and they looked good. "This is a special club for me, it means the world to me and I hope it goes from strength to strength. It doesn't matter that I'm not here. The only important thing is that the club continues to improve and has that forward-looking attitude."
