Former Reading captain Graeme Murty says Brian McDermott fully deserves his chance as manager.McDermott has been caretaker manager since December and has been given a 12-month rolling contract. [LNB]Murty, who knew McDermott when he was chief scout, told BBC Berkshire, there are similarities with Steve Coppell. [LNB]"He's a great deal of integrity, he's very honest, he'll tell it as it is. He's a little bit quieter than Steve, if that's possible," he said. [LNB]"He's just a very, very nice guy and everyone will tell you exactly the same thing [LNB]"Everyone's delighted for him because now he's got his big chance in the hot seat.[LNB] [LNB][LNB] "The only thing he's going to have to work on is people calling him 'gaffer' rather than 'Brian'," he continued. [LNB]Murty, now playing for Southampton, added that McDermott has a difficult job ahead to keep Reading in the Championship. [LNB]"He has to start turning good performances into wins. As technically and tactically adept as he is, the players are the ones who have to step up to that rather than Brian," he said. [LNB]"I do think if they stay up it'll be as big an achievement as getting to the Premier League in the first place because they've a massive job on at the moment."
