McDermott: Anfield is perfect audition
Published : 12 Jan 2010 15:43:00

The Royals earned the replay with Liverpool, who are 34 places above McDermott's side in the league pyramid, after holding the seven-time FA Cup winners to a 1-1 home draw on January 2. Chairman Sir John Madejski put McDermott in temporary charge of first-team affairs following the departure of Brendan Rodgers in December. McDermott is yet to win in his four games in charge and fans have called for the return of former manager Steve Coppell, who spent six years at the helm - two of them in the top flight. But McDermott says the Liverpool result has buoyed the spirits of his side and he believes he deserves the job on a full-time basis. "Will winning at Anfield help me get the job? It will certainly help," the 48-year-old said. "It has been well documented that I want the job and I think I should get it. All I can do is try to win the next game and that's all I will try to do."
