McDermott lifted in second half

Reading boss Brian McDermott felt his side deserved their point on the basis of their second-half performance after a 1-1 draw at Hull. McDermott's side were outplayed for large stages of the first half, but looked to be a rejuvenated team after the interval. Former Royals midfielder James Harper looked to have given the Tigers all three points when he curled home from long range in the 39th minute, but Simon Church equalised from point-blank range after Hull failed to clear Ian Harte's free-kick from the left flank with eight minutes remaining.. McDermott said: "It was difficult in the first half and Hull were the better side. We didn't play at all well in the first half, but in the second we knew we had to come out and show a lot more, and we did. "We played well after the break and when we got it back to 1-1 I thought we would go on and win it. "From our point of view we have to see it as one point gained. I had a chat with my players before the game about Hull. I've seen their last couple of games and they are a good side."
