McCarthy extends stay with Royals
The 19-year-old academy product is behind Adam Federici and Ben Hamer in the pecking order for the Royals and is on loan at League One side Yeovil.
Director of football Nick Hammond said: "We are delighted Alex has committed to us with this new contract because he is a talented young goalkeeper with terrific potential.
"He is continuing his development out on loan at the moment and he is a player we have high hopes for."
McCarthy said: "This is massive for me. I love being here and I am very happy to sign this new extension.
"I'm getting more league experience at Yeovil which is great but I would like to come back here next season and try to push for the number one spot."
