Long earns Rodgers praise

Reading boss Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for striker Shane Long after he scored all four goals in a 4-0 pre-season friendly win over Swedish side Tolo IF.

Long has often had to play second fiddle to Kevin Doyle during his time with the Royals, but the 22-year-old now has added responsibility after his compatriot departed for Wolves.

Rodgers told the club's official website: "He's adapting to a new way of working, a new way of playing and you could see he can play in that role and play with a real good quality.

"He's not just a runner and goalscorer, he's been developing his football attributes as well.

"His hold-up play was good, his movement was excellent and in the final phase, which is about scoring goals, he was prolific."
