Lita turns down Blades

Reading insist Leroy Lita will not be joining Sheffield United even though the Blades had said they had agreed a fee for the 24-year-old.

The former Bristol City striker had been targeted by United as a replacement for James Beattie, who moved to Stoke City earlier this week.

However, the Royals' director of football, Nick Hammond, told the club's official website: "We did receive a private offer from Sheffield United for Leroy Lita last week.

"We always try to be open with our players regarding bids officially lodged by other clubs, so it was put to Leroy.

"However, we were very pleased that Leroy firmly stated his desire to stay at Reading and he will not be joining Sheffield United."
