    Knee op for injured Sonko

    23 Jan 2007 - 11:18:47

Reading's Ibrahima Sonko will undergo an exploratory operation to asses the extent of the knee injury suffered by the defender in the weekend victory over Sheffield United.

The Senegal international injured his knee in the first half of the 3-1 victory and will go under the surgeon's knife after initial scans proved inconclusive.

Meanwhile, the Royals are keeping their fingers crossed that injury-jinxed striker Dave Kitson isn't set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

Kitson has already missed the first five months of the season with hamstring trouble and then appendicitis and was withdrawn from the substitute's bench at the weekend after breaking down in the pre-match warm-up.

The former Cambridge United marksman suffered a thigh strain, but Reading physio Jon Fearn doesn't expect the injury to be too serious.

He told the club's official website: "We don't think Kits has done anything major, but we'll have get a scan done on Tuesday just to be certain."
